Tintagel Castle

Tintagel Castle was built in the thirteenth century and has been home to many a Cornish Earl. The Castle has strong associations with the legend of King Arthur, and it is said that the ancient Kings of Cornwall held their court here. The Castle is set high on a headland and as such, much of the Castle has been eroded by the sea winds and rains. Just below the Castle is Merlin's Cave. There are regular guided tours of the Castle, and there is a cafe and a shop. Dogs are permitted on leads. It should be noted that access to the Castle is via over 100 steep steps. The Castle is open every day of the year, except Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's day, from 10am.
