Logan Rock
The Logan Rock is a huge balanced piece of granite weighing 80 tons on the headland, 30 minutes’ walk from Porthcurno. The rock is said to have been dislodged in 1824 by a young naval officer and his friends who were all a little worse off for drink and also a nephew of the poet Oliver Goldsmith. The locals were reputedly so disgusted by their vandalism that he was ordered to replace the rock at his own expense (7 months’ work with 60 labourers totalled £130 8s which is £5800 in today’s money.)
