St Ives to Carbis Bay (1.5 miles - medium difficulty)

This walk begins at Porthmeor beach, where there is a pay and display car park. From the beach, walk through the narrow streets of the town to the "Island" - a headland, atop which sits a Coastal Lookout and the ancient Chapel of St Nicholas, restored in 1971. Follow the path all the way around the Island and down to Porthgwidden beach. Next, walk either along the beach or just above it, passing the colourful beach huts. Continue in this direction, passing the Pedn Olva Hotel, and on into the harbour, where you will see the Sloop Inn. The path then takes you along the seafront, passing cafes, an ice cream parlour, craft shops and pubs. Upon reaching the Lifeboat Station, take the path running down the right hand side of the building - this will take you along the side of Porthminster beach and up to Porthminster Point. Then cross the railway line and continue uphill on the path ahead. Cross the following railway line. This is the line followed by the St Erth to St Ives train - a journey which offers some spectacular scenery. Continue down the path and steps to reach your destination, Carbis Bay beach. There are regular buses to St Ives from Carbis Bay should you not wish to walk back.
