Penzance to Marazion (3.5 miles - easy)

This walk starts in the ancient market town of Penzance, near the station and Tourist Information Centre on the seafront. There is plenty of pay and display parking in Penzance. The coastal footpath proceeds along the seafront, following the line of the railway. Walkers will pass the little village of Long Rock, where a pub offers welcome refreshment, and Marazion Marsh - a haven for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts. Where the path reaches Marazion, there is the opportunity to get off the footpath and walk along the beach if the tide is out. St Michael's Mount, now owned by the National Trust, can be viewed and accessed from Marazion beach. The mount is home to a twelfth century castle which is open to the public. At low tide, access to the mount is via a causeway; at high tide, a small motor boat carries passengers to and fro the mainland (not during winter months). From the beach, the town of Marazion is just a short walk away - here you will find cafes, pubs, bakeries and various arts and crafts galleries, as well as Maypole Gardens. For those not wishing to walk back to Penzance, there are frequent bus services between Marazion village and Penzance.
