Sailing

Sailing and Cornwall go together like strawberries and clotted cream. The two are intrinsically linked. Cornwall has a maritime history that goes back for hundreds of years. Many of the early explorers sailed from the county and sailing boats have been used for fishing, trade and transportation, well before sailing became a popular recreational sport. Today when we talk about sailing in Cornwall, we generally mean the exciting watersport enjoyed by thousands of people on the coast and estuaries of the county. Dingy sailing, yacht sailing and tall-ships sailing are all available to visitors to Cornwall. The best place to start is with a lesson from an approved Royal Yachting Association (RYA) approved school. Then once you've cracked the basics you're free to hire a boat and have fun sailing under wind power on Cornish waters. For inspiration, check out one of the many sailing regattas that take place in Cornwall during the summer.
