Kayaking and Canoeing - The Tamar

The Tamar Valley is home to some of the West Country's most beautiful and unspoilt scenery. This includes its tributaries, the Tavy and Lynher. The area has been designated as an Area of Natural Beauty, mainly because of its outstanding landscape but also due to its exceptional wildlife area of international significance. The River Tavy and Lynher should only be used by the experienced kayaker or canoeist since there is a high gradient, obstacles including large rocks and trees, many bends and small rapids, which can prove dangerous for beginners. However Alder Lake is a nice and small safe place for beginners to learn the techniques of paddling before venturing around to more advanced regions. For further information on kayaking and canoeing in the county, please follow the link below to Adventure Cornwall. Adventure Cornwall have many contacts in outdoor pursuits, and are well placed to advise you of where to go and what to do during your Cornish Cottage Holiday.
