Surfing

Surfing is a huge recreational sport and a thriving industry in Cornwall. Britain's first surfers braved the waters here in the 50s and 60s, laying the foundation for a surf culture that is an intrinsic part of Cornwall's identity today. Cornwall has some fantastic surfing beaches and reef breaks, and its location at the end of the south west peninsula attracts most of the well rolling in from the Atlantic. It's no coincidence that the country's best surfers, such as Ben Skinner, Russell Winter and Alan Stokes, hail from Cornwall. Because of the consistently good surf in Cornwall, it is a great place to learn to surf or immerse yourself in the surf lifestyle. There are many surf schools scattered along the coast, many of them approved and regulated by the British Surfing Association (BSA). Professional surf coaches will teach you the basics of wave-riding and no doubt give you a life-long addiction to the sea. If you want to see how the pros do it, check out one of the many surfing contests which take place throughout the county during the year. For further information on surfing in the county, please follow the link below to Adventure Cornwall. Adventure Cornwall have many contacts in outdoor pursuits, and are well placed to advise you of where to go and what to do during your Cornish Cottage Holiday.
