St Columb Major
St Columb Major is located in North Cornwall, approximately 8 miles inland from Newquay. The town has a tradition of ‘hurling’, a medieval game which is played firstly on Shrove Tuesday and again on the Saturday eleven days later. St Columb Major's highest point is Castle an Dinas – standing at 709 feet – the site of an iron-age hill fort. The town has a number of shops and pubs, and the oldest building in St Columb Major is Glebe House near the church – now a tea room. Nearby attractions include The Springfields Pony Centre and Spirit of the West American Theme Park, and St Columb Major’s main annual event is Carnival Week, held each August.
