South Cafe, Manaccan

Set in the delightful village of Manaccan, this gem of a restaurant has a certain casual charm that exudes from the white washed walls and well-presented, classic neutral decor. The menu is predominately modern English; the chef preferring to bolster a set menu with a wide selection of daily specials. As much as possible of the products are sourced locally: sea food from the local fishermen (one will often be in the bar enjoying a pint after a hard day on the water), salad from Lizard leaves and both Roddas and Roskilly's dairy products. The beef is supplied by Donald Russell which ensures quality is delivered on every occasion. Make sure not to miss the Steak night on Wednesdays. The dishes are served without fuss but with a good degree of presentation and finesse. Prices are fair for the standard on offer here; given the comfortable surroundings, casual but attentive service and excellent quality on offer. There is a south-facing garden which is sheltered and secluded, creating a hot-spot for coffee and cake or a glass of wine. Make sure to try their variety of freshly-baked cakes if you are walking through the village and not able to sample the menu with a coffee (made with Cornish Origin coffee). The cafe is open from 10.30 until late, Wednesdays through Saturdays from April 6th and then all week in the peak season. Look out for the hand-written chalk boards or view their website for further details.
