As England's most southerly village and point, Landwednack holds a certain charm. It is a thriving village community with a local school and working farms surrounding. It is well worth a visit to experience Cornish culture in its most raw form. The village has a large green which is used as a car park during the summer months as well as further parking being available in the National Trust car park by the Lighthouse and by the cafes at the point. There are several gift shops in the village; some of which sell local serpentine stone, two pubs, some cafes, a Retallacks' butchers and grocer's, Post Office, Premier, Ann's Famous Pasties, an art and crafts shop and a farm shop. It is worth walking down to the Point from the village to absorb the breath-taking panoramic views of the Peninsula. Watch out for the Lizard Lighthouse on the left and the Cornish Chough circling overhead. There has been a Lighthouse situated on the Lizard since 1751 and there are tours available in the summer for the current one. The point boasts two cafes and a gift shop to provide the perfect situation for a rest and situation to take in the stunning views. Below the point is an old lifeboat house; the present lifeboat station is located three miles east of the headland. If approaching/leaving the Lizard from/to Helston, it is impossible to miss Goonhilly Earth Station: the largest satellite station in the world and a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest.
