Located on the west bank of the River Tamar, Saltash is an ideal base for those wishing to explore both Cornwall and Devon. The Royal Albert Bridge in Saltash, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and completed in 1859, is unique in the world and is a must-see for anyone visiting the town. Alongside the Tamar estuary, the fifteenth century home of Sir Francis Drakes’ first wife, Mary Newman, can be found – and ferries operate from the small pier, taking passengers up to Plymouth Barbican. Saltash is also ideally located for those wishing to dive the Scylla. Whitsand Bay beach is within easy reach of Saltash, as are the picturesque fishing villages of Looe and Polperro. The naval city of Plymouth - with its countless shops, restaurants, bars and numerous cinemas and theatres - is just 7 miles away. Nearby attractions include the Monkey Sanctuary, National Marine Aquarium and Plymouth Pavilions – which offers swimming, ice-skating and entertainment for all the family.
