Tavistock, a former stannary town lies to the west of Dartmoor. The town has a thriving market scene with a farmer’s market held on the town square twice and month and a covered pannier market held five days a week. There is a diverse and interesting range of shops and an excellent choice of pubs, bistros and restaurants. For those who enjoy the countryside this is the perfect destination. Excellent walking can be found on Dartmoor, characterized by its distinctive granite tors. The landscape is diverse and beautiful from the barren remoteness of the moorland to lush countryside and deep wooded valleys.
