Porthcurno - Minack Theatre and Visitor Centre

The Minack Theatre was built by Rowena Cade, a Victorian girl who bought the Minack headland in the 1920s for £100. Today, there is a Visitor Centre which tells the fascinating tale of how one determined lady built the theatre with her own hands. The first play to be performed on the cliffside stage was Shakespeare's 'The Tempest' in the summer of 1932. There are performances every week between Easter and the end of September. It is highly recommended to go along with a picnic and warm clothing for an unforgettable experience. The theatre also has a sub-tropical cliff garden, which is based on Rowena Cade's initial vision in the 1930s. There is a coffee shop serving cream teas, snacks and light meals and a gift shop that sells jewellery, clothing and other souvenirs. The Minack Theatre is open throughout the year from 9.30am in the summer months, and from 10am in the winter months.
